The Red Zone of Politics

tea-party-debate-neckties

Politics are in full swing with the candidates trying to win support and momentum wherever they can find it. Each candidate is trying to establish their authentic message and their own powerhouse image. What we are seeing is a universal and conventional style of a dark navy suit, a white dress shirt and a standardized ruby red necktie. It has a strong presidential presence but is, from our fashion and tie aficionado's point of view, lacking in originality and authenticity.

Classic Mitt Romney & Rick Perry Ties

Last week, Esquire wrote an article titled “CNN Tea Party: Battle of the Solid Red, Silk Tie” and started the article with “Not even worth trying to declare a winner.” Each candidate was wearing the signature ruby red hued tie. The three ties above are a good example of ties that, we are convinced, candidates Rick Perry or Mitt Romney would like. It’s possible however, that the overuse of the iconic red tie is starting to have a negative connotation. In this political climate, the public wants a strong, self thinking leader who doesn’t conform to bureaucratic conventions.

For the sake of innovation and modernity, we would encourage the candidates to shake up their tie choices and mix it up with new colors and new patterns. First impressions are lasting impressions and we want to see the candidates for who they are. Scientific studies show that red is the color that gets the highest reaction from the viewer. It conjures up notions of victory, power and strength. But trends are starting to show that politicians need to change things up to avoid a cookie cutter aesthetic. Our founder, Hendrik Pohl, was quoted in a recent article published by SFGate that "I believe the public would respond quite positively to a change in presidential candidates' attire. If I were to consult the candidates on their clothing choices then I would add new colors such as ties in light blue, younger looking skinny ties, and even 'Winston Churchill style bow ties'."

Short lived Happiness.

Short of time so a short post here. My exams just finished today and I'm really looking forward to go back home... Its nice to have some time off and relax and lie down reading books, watching movies, listening to the music, requesting mama whatever u want to eat, do stupid things with everyone, play cricket, read early morning newspaper in the lawn, buying new books, making plans for hoteling and outing, and yes talk with the maid in english =D

I was fearing that the exams will not go as well as I expect them to go, but I guess thanks Allah I have done well in all the exams but lets see what the examiners decide. This time when i will come back, things will be lot different from what they are now, and thats what makes me nervous.

Ramadan is going pretty fine and I'll have to say that my health has gotten worse due to the food quality here. The weather here has been very good and I've enjoyed the everyday rain.

India is giving me the only pure happiness, they are losing so perfectly and sweetly that I can't gelp loving them. Remember Pakistan's tour of England last year?! We had no Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, M. Yousuf and many other top players still we managed to win alteast one test match, score 300+ runs twice or thrice, bowled England out cheaply several times and India, the previous number one have not been close to achieving anything close to this.

btw, Waqar Younis will resign soon.

Just Packing and not feeling well!! :) hope I have a nice journey and a nice time at home!! :)

Define Love..

I love you. It's not a weight you must carry around. I love you. It's not a box that holds you in. I love you. It's not a standard you have to bear. I love you. It's not a sacrifice I make. I love you. It's not a pedestal you are frozen upon. I love you. It's not an expectation of perfection. I love you. It's not my life's whole purpose (or your's). I love you. It's not to make you change. I love you. It's not even to make you love me. I love you. It's as pure and simple as that.

"And what is it to work with love? It is to weave the cloth with threads drawn from your heart, even as if your beloved were to wear that cloth. It is to build a house with affection, even as if your beloved were to dwell in that house. It is to sow seeds with tenderness and reap the harvest with joy, even as if your beloved were to eat the fruit. It is to charge all things you fashion with a breath of your own spirit, And to know that all the blessed dead are standing about you and watching."

Google Doodle for Pakistan

Thank you Google!!

Green color depicts the green in Pakistani Flag, while a monument Minar-e-Pakistan [National Tower of Pakistan] replaces the letter “l”. Crescent and star are used to make the top of letter “g”, while some rays of light and stars create an illuminating effect.

That is Life!

Let me start from the best things and then go to the worst!!

Ciao Amici!

The best thing that happened was my birthday aka Raafay Day and it was made perfect by all the people around me. I had never ever imagined 350+ people wishing me. Papa and Mama were the first ones to wish. Its always nice to be home. Thank you everyone for the wishes and your love! :)

At last I was able to go home. It were tough two days when I didn't get the ticket even though I reached the terminal and then had to go back next day again. It was amazing to see the crowd of people coming to visit Islamabad and Murree with seats of the next three days all booked, but thankfully I got a seat somehow.
All the tensions and sadness that was creeping inside me here in the apartment vanished as soon as I stepped in Multan. It was a short tour but I feel back to myself again :)

Ramadan has started and I feel everything has changed. People, their behaviors, their language. One thing that amazes me is when my friends say " Oh its ramadan we can't abuse, otherwise" .. " Oh its ramadan otherwise we would have done this and that". I mean that's what we should normally do?! Avoid the bad things. Why does only Ramadan makes us better and good?! Why not we just think that Allah is watching all the time and that we are Muslims. I will never understand this logic of becoming goody good for ramadan only.

My Ramadan is going fine, but the food here at F11 is disappointing and not worth eating. I miss the Sehri of the old apartment and the fun. OK now I'm too thankless... Here is what I saw the other day when I was in Multan. Papa parked the car on a busy road as he had to buy medicines for the hospital. I stayed in the car as it was too hot outside. I saw an astonishing scene. A man who was a labourer, came to the restaurant near by and asked for two loafs of bread (Roti). He had no money and told them he was too hungry. They gave him the stale bread. He sat on the road near by, brought out a small pink shopper bag, inside which he had an onion and two green peppers and he ate the meal as if it was the tastiest ever.....
Happy Ramadan By the way. Hope that we are able to spend this month with its true meaning and spirit.

For me cricket is at its best when either Pakistan is winning or India is losing. Its India who is losing and losing badly and I'm loving every bit of it xD Zimbabwe beat Bangladesh after their return to test Cricket and it was nice to see. They can give a tough time to Pakistan there is no doubt. My exams are about to start and I don't feel like studying. ummm then again its a normal thing for every student. Although I really need to work hard this time. ohh and yes this was the worst part.

P.S I really like this quote: Rudeness is the weak man's imitation of strength.  - Eric Hoffer

Arrivederci! :)

Cats: The Cutest of Creatures

Please note: This article has been published in 'Teen-Ink Monthly USA' 'VShine World UAE' and 'SMASH Pakistan' So its their property as well now, and unlike most of my other articles this cannot be used anywhere else' :)
Raafay.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

I like cats, I pet cats but to read about them was totally a new experience, but then someone gave me this brilliant Idea and currently after one day of cat study I feel like a CAT myself.

I hope (Insha-Allah) xD that It'll be as informative for others as It was for me, although these are just a few selected facts :)

So where to start from... I hear many people use this phrase  "Raining Cats and Dogs" when it rains heavily,  It is believed that this term had been originated in 17th century, England, when many cats and dogs drowned during heavy periods of rain. While searching a little more I was able to conceive that this term could also have been originated during an interesting incident that took place in England during a Soccer game, when it rained heavily after almost a year and people who had brought their pets with them, freed them to enjoy the rain and suddenly the soccer pitch was crowded with Cats and Dogs.

The oldest age that a house cat has attained and has been reliably documented is the case of a female tabby named "Ma." She lived to the ripe old age of 34! hmmm interesting eh?! Just add another fact here that If a at lives for 3 years that makes 20 human years, If she lives for 7, that makes 40 human years, 15, that will make 70 human years... So technically this 34 years old cat was humanly around 150 years of age, Wish all cats live that long :) btw, the average age for an indoor cat is 15 years, while the average age for an outdoor cat is only 3 to 5 years.

You love your cats right?! Ailurophilia is the "love of cats." where 'Ailuros' means Cat and 'Philia' means fondness or love in greek language. So yes YOU are suffering from this very thing! xP

But how do cats show there love and hate for you? Here is a simple way to find that out. If your cat is near you, and her tail is quivering, this is the greatest expression of love your cat can give you. Cats knead with their paws when they're happy. But If her tail starts thrashing, her mood has changed --- Time to distance yourself from her. Your cat loves you and can "read" your moods.  If you're sad or under stress, you may also notice a difference in your cat's behavior.

During her productive life, one female cat could have more than 100 kittens. Usually on average a cat has 1-8 kittens per litter, and 2-3 litters per year. In 1952, a Texas a Cat named Dusty set the record by having more than 420 kittens before having her last litter at age 18. And if the number of litter remains the same, A single pair of cats and their kittens can produce as many as 420,000 kittens in just 7 years. Now talking of the records the largest known litter (with all surviving) was that of a Persian in South Africa named Bluebell. Bluebell gave birth to 14 kittens in one litter! Phew!! xD

Well here is a strange one, We humans normally have 206 bones and 650 muscles in our body, In comparison to the 5-6 feet tall, 70-80 kg humans, Cats have 290 bones in their bodies, and 517 muscles. Shocking Isn't it?

Cats are the sleepiest of all mammals. They spend 16 hours of each day sleeping. With that in mind, a seven year old cat has only been awake for two years of its life! No other mammal sleeps as much as cats do, the closest thing are bats who sleep 13 hours on average.

In greek Mythology Cats were a symbol of Goddess Bastet, whose mission was to protect the home and symbolizes the joy to live, because it considers the deity of the harmony and the happiness.

Here is an interesting use of Cats if you visit Egypt: During the Persian invasions of Egypt in the 6th century BC, Persian soldiers often captured and tied cats to their shields.  It was impossible for the Egyptians, who worshipped cats, to kill or even harm them, thus giving the Persians the upper hand.
People have believed that witches could transfer their spirits into any cat. A witch could only perform this ritual transfer nine times, though, because a cat only had nine lives.  And when a witch was killed, the witch's cat was often murdered with her.nine lives.  And when a witch was killed, the witch's cat was often murdered with her.

A Wish worth Wishing:

My only wish though is that someday a Rabbit proposes a Cat and they both get married!! What cute little Rabbit kittens we'll see! ♥ keeping my fingers crossed!

P.S Cats are Lovable !! =)
