Best Era of Pakistan Cricket?!

Ever since I have started following Cricket I've heard two things about Pakistani Cricket Team..

1) When it's their day they are the World's most dangerous team.
2) Pakistan are inconsistent, they blow hot and cold far too much.

The first quote has been tagged with Pakistan Cricket since the early 1990's but critics say they have never played to their potential. With the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar in the fast bowling ranks, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmed and Danish Kaneria in the spin department. Brilliant wicket keepers like Moin Khan, Rashid Latif, Kamran Akmal. Dangerous All-rounders such as Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi and Azhar Mehmood, World Class batsmen like Saeed Anwar, Inzamam-ul-haq, Salim Malik, Ijaz Ahmed, Muhammad Yousuf.. Pakistan team was easily a world beater and could have ruled an era of cricket, but they never did just because they did not play up to their potential. There are many reasons for that...Match Fixing, Internal fighting, Jealousy and over confidence are a few visible ones.

World Cup 1999 was the best example of how Pakistan can blow hot and cold.

Pakistan are Inconsistent. They will beat Australia one day, they will lose to Ireland the other day. The only reason I see for this inconsistency is that they have always relied on Individual brilliance to win a match and never fought as a team unit. Some day Wasim and Waqar will rattle the opposition, the other day Inzamam or Yousuf will lead you out through a tough situation, next day you had Razzaq or Afridi winning you a match single handedly. In a team game Individual brilliance will win you a couple of matches here and there but you cannot win consistently.

They have played well in patches and there have been three of them which stand out. The best time perhaps that Pakistan had as a team was the two year period under Waqar Younis from January 2001 to December 2002. Here are the stats for the test and one day Internationals respectively. The highlights being the ODI series win in Australia and Test Series win in England.

Played: 54                                           Played: 18
Won: 35                                              Won: 11
Lost: 18                                               Lost: 6
W/L Ratio: 1.94                                   W/L Ratio: 1.66

The next best time they had was for a longer period August 2003 to December 2006 which was mostly under Inzamam-ul-Haq and Bob Woolmer when Pakistan were able to play consistently and without too much changes in the team. The highlights were the Series win in India and England.

Inzamam's era had its highs and lows though. The oval fiasco was the biggest of them. The most successful length of Pakistan cricket also ended in the worst possible way when Pakistan's World Cup dream ended in the first round in 2007.

Played: 87                                           Played: 35
Won: 51                                              Won: 15
Lost: 34                                               Lost: 11
W/L Ratio: 1.50                                   W/L Ratio: 1.36

The next best phase they are having is right now, under the captaincy of Misbah-ul-Haq and coaching of Waqar Younis (who just recently resigned, but played an integral part to unite the team after the spot fixing fiasco) and that is due to one simple reason. Pakistan are playing as a team and every player is looking to play its part and they definitely are not relying on Individual Brilliance. Although they have played just 10 Test matches their W/I ratio is better than any other team. On the other hand they have been the second most successful team in the ODI format with a W/L ratio of 2.44, only India have done better with a W/L ratio of 2.55.

Played: 32                                           Played: 10
Won: 22                                              Won: 4
Lost: 9                                                 Lost: 1
W/L Ratio: 2.44                                   W/L Ratio: 4.00

As long as I have followed cricket I can easily say that this is the best 'TEAM' Pakistan has ever had as they are playing to their potential, and taking no credit away from Afridi, who along with the senior players, during the ODI series of the disastrous tour of England vowed to take Pakistan team at the top and ever since the South African series 2010-11 Pakistan have been consistent. So is it the best era of Pakistan Cricket?! It is early to suggest that and the real test of this team will come when they take on England earlier next year and perhaps India later, with the series in Srlianka and Australia's tour of Pakistan on the cards next year as well this will decide if Pakistan have left the 'Inconsistent' tag behind and firmly gripped the "World Beaters' one. :)

Wings!

This Poem is Written by Maham Shahbaz :)

See that bird over there?? In the cage?

She wants to fly away..

Into the wilderness , into the open air.

She wants to feel what was made for her,

but she cant..

She tries , she cries , flaps her wings and thinks..

“are they meant for flying or for beauty?”

She looks outside to the breaking dawn.

Hope floods through her cage..

“maybe today he might let me go”

she thinks..

On the orange sky she looks at others fly,

Her heart skips a beat for she knows

her wings are really meant for flying.

She flaps her wings again, trying to break free.

Her master thinks she is hungry,

so he gets her food and water,

The heart broken bird sits their,

quietly thinking why cant she fly with the rest?

Her master comes up to her and tells her he loves her,

She looks at him with a broken heart and tearful eyes,

hoping he would understand for those,

who love can see right through your heart.

He mistakes them for gratefulness and walks away.

The bird sits there now all alone.

the sun is setting..

Others fly toward their home and,

she still cant fly..

Outside she looks at the sun.

drowning in her sorrow,

With the setting sun, her every bit of hope sets,

As the darkness envelops her,

she tries to think what she did wrong,

She is trapped in a cage made so,

lovingly by her master,

She has wings but she cant use them,

She cries in the night over the selfishness,

of every man who doesn't stand up for her,

She cries when no one can see,

So that her master’s heart wont break...

Imran Khan's Autobiography 'Pakistan: A Personal History'

Note: These are the few parts of the book which are published just so that people can get to know about the book more and the more and interesting detail is present in the book itself. This book has been published by Bantam Press. All the views are of the writer itself. For this article I have taken help from Wikipedia, Imran Khan’s book, Daily Express Pakistan.

The Old Man and the Sea is a novel written by American author Ernest Hemingway in 1951. It is a story of Santiago, an aging fisherman who struggles with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream but he never lets go hope. At one place Santiago is quoted as saying “But a man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated.” Imran Khan the famous Pakistani cricketer is a true example of this quote.

Before starting his political career, Imran Khan was famous because of two reasons. Cricket and Shaukat Khanam Cancer Hospital are those reasons. The place where he stands today has been achieved after intense struggle and hard work and one can only applaud the great man.

His interest in cricket started at a very young age as two of his cousins were part of Pakistani National team and captained the team at different stages. He visited Lahore to watch a cricket match between Pakistan and MCC at the age of 9, it was a match in which his cousin Javed Burkey scored century and after that Imran Khan decided he will become a cricketer at any cost. After that day he never doubted that he will not play for Pakistan.

Although he has not mentioned this in his book but during an interview with the Cricinfo Imran Khan was quoted as saying “From a very young age I was told that I’m not as good as my other cousins and that I won’t be successful in Cricket.” After a poor performance in his first test match his fellow cricketers advised him to quit cricket and concentrate on something else. Imran Khan was a medium pacer and only decided to become a fast bowler after watching Dennis Lillie. “In 1972 I watched Dennis Lillie during an Ashes test in England and I was thoroughly impressed. That was the day I decided to become a fast bowler. My seniors and coach at Worcestershire tried to convince me that my body shape is not that of a fast bowler and If I tried to change my bowling action I will destroy myself.” It was my Idealism that helped me and I was able to not only change my action but become a genuinely fast bowler.”

The best example of valor and courage was the 1992 Cricket World Cup when after many losses Pakistan came back strongly to lift the trophy from no where under the captaincy of Imran Khan. His achievements in Cricket are countless so just to round them off Victory against India and England on their homeland were special but Imran Khan rates the three series Pakistan drew with the mighty West Indies at their pomp as his standout achievement. 1n 1988 Pakistan was the first team not to lose the series in west Indies and lf the umpiring was up to the mark Pakistan would have won the series.

His second achievement was the Shaukat Khanam Caner Hospital. It is the first Cancer Hospital of South Asia. How this miracle took place, and what was the story behind it, is explained comprehensively in this book. When Imran Khan organized the first board of governor meeting all of them were of the view that a Cancer hospital has no scope in Pakistan. Imran Khan writes “Except of one doctor, most of them were telling me that it will be a total flop and this project is not implementable. The only doctor that agreed said that it might be possible to build the hospital but we won’t be able to give the treatment for free. I had no idea how to avoid this situation as I had already announced in public and started collecting donations. My cousin Javed Burkey suggested that I should start a clinic after my mother’s name initially and then look towards my aim. My sisters were really worried about me and asked me to drop the idea as I will lose all my fame and destroy my reputation.

But I could not go back on this and it was impossible to return the donations to people so It was too late. During these days a meeting with ‘Pakistan Association of Doctors North America’ gave me some hope.’ Imran Khan knew that the destiny was still far away, Dr. Tauseef who was a cancer specialist in New York recommended Dr. Nausherwaan Burkey as the person who could help Imran Khan a lot and it turned out to be that this doctor was a cousin of Imran Khan. He got associated with the cause and served his duty with full sincerity. In the Autobiography Imran Khan praised Dr. Nausherwaan a lot for the dedication he showed for the cancer hospital.

For the cancer hospital Imran Khan had to change himself and had to do things he had not ever imagined He had to ask people for donation although never in his life he asked his father for even a single penny. He used to reject people’s offer to meet as they only wanted to meet him as he was famous and had money, but he had to do that as well so that he could get as much donations as possible. He was a person who was daring and spoke what he wanted to but now he had to be careful of the media personals as one bad article could lose him thousands of rupees for the hospital. One positive change in his personality was that he got closer to children and got to know how to treat them, before this he used to avoid children but going to schools and colleges for donations taught him a lot.

Now let’s talk about the early life of Imran Khan who was born on 25 November, 1952 to Shaukat Khanum and Ikramullah Khan Niazi, a civil engineer, in Lahore. A quiet and shy boy in his youth, Khan grew up in an upper middle-class Niazi Pathan family with four sisters, he being the only son of his parents. Settled in Punjab, Khan's father descended from the Pashtun (Pathan) Niazi Shermankhel tribe of Mianwali in Punjab. Imran Khan has a lot of influence of her mother whom he loved the most and used to hide things that could make his mother sad.

Imran Khan has also talked about his grand mother in the book who was the most famous among the children of the family as she used to support them in everything and the children found it easy to talk with their grand mother than parents. The only thing that his mother was strict about was home work which was compulsory for Imran Khan to complete or he was not allowed to play, he had to go to school everyday as there was no other way but he used to disguise his Quran teacher and went outside to play cricket while the Maulvi Sabab had to sit and wait for hours. After completing A-levels from Pakistan he went to UK for higher studies. He did not get settled initially and wanted to come back home but his mother was always there to support him calling him everyday. He got settled after a year or so and his close friends included Benazir Bhutto and Vikram Mehta.

His family was a religious one and his father had a strong belief on Sufism. In those days how Imran Khan did perceive religion is explained by him. “My mother always knew that I used to hate anything that I had to do by force. Whenever they tried to force me and become a good Muslim the more I resisted but saying that religion has always given me strength.” His mother used to tell him stories of British who invaded Sub Continent and her mother taught him one quote that remain with him all his life and it was the quote of Tipu Sultan, the famous emperor “Its better to live one day as Lion, then to live 100 years as a Wolf.’ Majid Khan was his childhood hero but fate brought him at a stage when he had to drop Majid Khan from the team, this obviously hampered the relations between the two. One good thing that happened was that Imran didn’t drink ever following Majid Khan.

He witnessed both the Indo-Pak wars as a youngster and has generally described it in the book as well. In 1965 during the war days, for the protection of the Zaman Park, a defense force was formed by the committee of which he wanted to be a part of but could not as he was ineligible as he was too young. He was impressed by the zeal and enthusiasm of the public during the war. In 1971 during the fall of Dhaka he was bitterly disappointed. Before the army operation he was one of the people who were on the last flight and saw the tensions between the people. Ashraf Ul Haq was the captain of the under -19 team back then and later became a good friend of Imran Khan told him such astonishing stories and facts that he was sure Pakistan will lose half of its part soon. He never again believed what the governments told to people and decided he will believe what the general public views were.

Imran Khan was a big fan of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and called him nationalist. He was impressed by the speech of Bhutto in the 1965 United Nations meeting. In his views Bhutto could not achieve what he was capable of as the land lord culture in the country was a big hurdle. He criticized the decision of Bhutto to privatize the schools and industry as it turned out to be a disaster. In 1979 when Bhutto was hanged Imran Khan was in Srilanka when he got the news and became very sad. In the same year Iran was revolutionized and Russia entered Afghanistan and Imran Khan has talked about them in detail. Zia-Ul-Haq was now the president of Pakistan and Imran had to interact with him as the captain of Pakistani Cricket team.. In 1987 it was General Zia who asked Imran Khan on TV to take back his retirement and continue as the captain. Zia also asked Imran to join the National Assembly which he refused.

During these days he started to take some interest in Politics and and thought of making a political party which could become a force against Nawaz Shareef and Benazir Bhutto. Bhutto and Zardari were disappointed for not being invited to Inaugurate the Cancer Hospital and started to take revenge by tapping his phones and Imran was also followed by unknown people wherever he visited. In 1996 Imran Khan started Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaaf and took part in the general elections but lost by a huge margin. PML-N publicized the scandal with Seta White and also accused him of working with the Jewish lobby. Nawaz Shareef tried his best to create problems for Imran Khan and did not deliver the aid sent by the Argentina’s President. Imran was a firm supporter of Pervez Musharaf and was of the view that his 7 point agenda could do wonders for Pakistan but came to know soon that Musharaf had no such intensions; he even apologized to the public for supporting Musharraf. Imran participated in the 2002 elections and won by a huge margin but boycotted the 2008 elections. Just recently a BBC reporter interviewed Imran Khan and said “ After talking with the PTI leader Imran Khan for a few hours I felt a fear inside myself the way he was positive about winning the elections.”

Imran khan says it was a long time ago when a Sufi told me that I will come to power when I will be ready for it and I feel like I’m perfectly capable and ready to play a role for Pakistan. After 14 years of hard work and tough situations I feel it’s our time, almost all the youth are with me and supporting me and I believe only youth can bring a change in Pakistan. For the First time I can feel my time has come, Pakistan will change.

Do Not Bring an English Wife for you: Mother’s last Advise.

”When I was 18 years old my mother advised me not to bring an English wife for me and that was the last thing she said to me before my leaving for UK.” Imran Khan acted upon the advice for almost 24 years but married Jemima Khan and had to disobey his mother In a way. Imran Khan was always of the view that his marriage will be an arranged one just like everyone else in the family but things changed suddenly and he not only brought an English wife but it was a love marriage. After the divorce between the two his mothers prediction that an English women could not settle in the Pakistani culture came true. He was also targeted and blamed that he was a part of a Jewish lobby and that’s why he married Jemima but Imran says at that time I had no plans what so ever to join politics and my marriage was purely a love marriage and had nothing to do with anything else. He says Jemima was always worried about the propaganda in the media about him and says the reason he was not able to give time to her wife due to the politics was the main reason they had to separate.

First Meeting with Zardari:

In 1989 I visited Benazir at Bilawal House to ask her for some funds for the hospital. Benazir was busy so we happened to meet Zardari instead. I was hoping that my companionship with Benazir at oxford will help me In meeting and I would be listened to. Zardari met me with a smile and talked about my greatness and said good words about me as if he was buttering. But he did not offer any help and instead talked with the other people in the meeting more than me. Especially Tariq Shaffi, who was a famous industrialist and Zardari tried to convince him to set up two factories in Sindh. Both Zardari and Benazir did not help me with any funds but wanted me to invite them for the inauguration of the hospital but I had already decided that it will be the 10 year cancer patient Sumera Yousuf who will inaugurate the hospital.

First Meeting with Benazir:

Benazir was famous for being nice with the English people and being rude with Pakistani people. My first meeting with her was at a friend’s house when he invited Benazir and pulled the trigger on himself by talking about the land reforms and saying that they were not exactly implemented in the sindh province, this did not go well with Benazir and she started explaining in a loud voice. I tried to calm her down and after that we became good friends. In 1974 when she was 20 years old she was invited at the Holland Embassy to meet with the cricket team and she was ordering the Ambassador in such a tone as if he was her servant.  After passing out from oxford she stayed there for a year more just so that she could become the president of oxford union.

Nawaz Shareef and West Indies fast Bowlers:

An incident during the 1987 winter tells us about the mind set of Nawaz Shareef. Just before the World Cup was about to begin we played a warm up match against the mighty West Indies team. Just before the match was about to begin the board secretary told me that the CM Nawaz Shareef will captain the team today. I was astonished but thought he will sit and watch the match in the dressing room and captaining will just be a formality but I was further amazed when I saw him in the cricket dress going to the ground with Viv Richards for the toss but things did not end here. He won the toss, elected to bat and went in as an opener with Mudassar Nazar who wore all the accessories required and CM went in with just the usual pads. Here he was facing the most frightening bowling attack, all six feet tall, bowling 90 mph and the ones whole cricketing world feared to face. The first ball was bowled and reached the gloves of keeper even before Nawaz Shareef could move his bat. The misery ended soon though when the next ball crashed in to the stumps and he was on his way back to the dressing room.

Marketers create Artificial needs.

There are many arguments and contradictions that marketers create artificial needs. Well as far as my opinion is concerned i do agree with the statement that marketers do create artificial needs. Its basically without which we cant survive. Everyone is hungry of fulfilling his/her desired needs. The best example can be of coke. Consumer today want coke rather water at some cases. I have seen lots of people those who prefer to drink coke apart from water which is an argued statement that what led them to be that way.

Another very good example can be that of smoking and cigrettess. There are many smokers who cant quit smoking and through self ego defence mechanism changes the thoughts that its not going to hurt them. Marketers do create artificial needs which they play amongst the minds of different consumers. However its difficult to manipulate the consumers. For that you are required to have extensive information cited and justified by supported points. Good example in case of social networking is Facebook.

Marketers have potrayed in your mind that interaction and interacting with others in a social circle enhances your intellectual skills. The consumers now believe that they cant control logging on to facebook, literally at times when we are trying to study. Another example can be that of beauty products. Stereotype argument that something is good if its look beautiful. So marketers try to take the advantage of this attitude and set of believes which let them to make the consumers think that if they will use this specific beauty product then all others are going to admire you in the society,

Otherwise No Chance !

Needs created for the metrosexuals is an excellent example in this modern era. Metrosexuals are the ones who are beauty and fashion concious males. Its a big deal how the needs for metrosexuals have created in the market which is of influential trademarks of being a marketer, Opened up a new segment in the market. Artificial promises are hence being made, once of which the American Association of Ad agency took notice and claimed that this ad is doing atificial promises. But it doesnt really means that marketers are unable to create artificail needs.

Erzurum: The Historical City of Turkey

Erzurum is the Turkish city of Southern Anatolia. Its name has originated from the Arabic language words “Arz-E-Room” meaning, the Land of Romans. This city was famous in the Roman as well as Persian reign and was given the name by the Turkish emperors who conquered this city in the year 1071 during the war of Manzikert.

According to the census of year 2000 the total population of the city is around 361,235. According to the non government surveys the current population of the city is around 367,250. It must be noted that Erzurum is the largest city of the Erzurum Province which in fact is the biggest province of Southern Anatolia. The city is situated 1757 meters (5766 feet) above sea level and has the code word ‘The Rock’ according to the NATO forces. It also served as the Air Base for the NATO forces during the cold war years.

Early History:

In the older days this city was named ‘Karin’ which became the capital city of Armenia during the reign of Artaxiad and Arsacid Kings. In the year 387AD this city ws taken over by the Romans who built the city from scratch and stabilized it and changed the city name to ‘Theodosiopolis’ after the Great emperor Theodosius. Because of its sensitive location and strong army base this city was a cause of tensions between the Byzantines and Persians. King Anastasius I and King Justinian I built this city once again and constructed strong walls and fort around the city for the sake of more safety.

Middle Ages:

Theodosiopolis was conquered by the Umayyad general Abdallah ibn Abd al-Malik in 700/701 AD and after that It became the capital of Emirates of Qaliqala and was used as a base for raids into Byzantine territory. As the power of the Caliphate declined, and the resurgence of Byzantium began, the local Armenian leaders preferred the city to be under the control of powerless Muslim emirs rather than powerful Byzantine emperors.

In 931, and again in 949, Byzantine forces led by Theophilos Kourkouas, grandfather of the future emperor John I Tzimiskes, captured Theodosiopolis. Its Arab population was expelled and the city was resettled by Greeks and Armenians. Finally, in 1514 the region was conquered by the Ottoman Sultan Selim I, so called Selim the Inflexible. During the Ottoman Empire reign, the city served as the main base of Ottoman military power in the region. It was the capital of the eyalet of Erzurum.

Early in the seventeenth century, the province was threatened by Safavid Persia and a revolt by the province governor Abaza Mehmed Pasha.
This revolt was combined with Jelali Revolts (the uprising of the provincial musketeers called the Jelali), backed by Iran and lasted until 1628.

Modern History:
The city was captured by the Russian Empire in 1829, but was returned to the Ottoman Empire under the Treaty of Adrianople (Edirne), in September of the same year. During the Crimean war Russian forces approached Erzurum, but did not attack it because of insufficient forces and the continuing Russian siege of Kars. The city was unsuccessfully attacked (Battle of Erzurum (1877)) by a Russian army in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78. However in February 1878, the Russians took Erzurum without resistance, but it was again returned to the Ottoman Empire, this time under the Treaty of San Stefano. There were massacres of the city's Armenian citizens during the Hamidian massacres (1894–1896). The city was the location of one of the key battles in the Caucasus Campaign of World War I between the armies of the Ottoman and Russian Empires. This resulted in the capture of Erzurum by Russian forces under the command of Grand Duke Nicholas and Nikolai Nikolaevich Yudenich on February 16, 1916.

By the time the Russians entered in 1916, barely a hundred Armenians were left alive, out of a prewar population of 20,000; it is estimated that approximately 90% of the Armenians of Erzurum province had perished. By 1919, according to the American Committee for Relief in the Near East, Erzurum was left completely devoid of its Armenian population. It is reported in Turkish sources that some Armenian troops serving in the Russian army carried out revenge killings in the area of Erzurum, after having witnessed the destruction that had been wrought against the Armenian population.

Economy:

One of the largest source of income and economic activity in the city has been Atatürk University. Established in 1950, it is one of the largest universities in Turkey, having more than forty-thousand students. Tourism also provides a portion of the province's revenues. The city is a popular destination in Turkey for winter sports at the nearby Palandöken Mountain.
Erzurum is notable for the small-scale production of objects crafted from Oltu stone: most are sold as souvenirs and include prayer beads, bracelets, necklaces, brooches, earrings and hairclips.

Tourism:
Little of medieval Erzurum survives beyond scattered individual buildings such as the citadel fortress, and the 13th century Çifte Minareli Medrese (the "Twin Minaret" madrasa).
Six kilometres to the south of the center of Erzurum is an important skiing center on the Palandöken Mountain range. There are several ski runs; the south ski run is 8 km long, while the north ski run is intended for advanced skiers. The summit of Mt. Palandöken, which is called Büyük Ejder (Great Dragon), is at an altitude of 3188 metres. It can be reached with a chair lift which rises until an altitude of 3100 metres.

Transport:
The main bus station has bus links to most major Turkish cities. Erzurum is also the main railroad endpoint for the Eastern Anatolia region. Erzurum Airport, also used by the Turkish Air Force, has the second longest runway in Turkey. Although the early transport were the animal carts.

Cuisine:

One specialty of Erzurum's cuisine is CaÄŸ Kebab. Although this kebab variety is of recent introduction outside its native region, it is rapidly attaining widespread popularity around Turkey.
Kadayıf Dolması is an exquisite dessert made with walnut.

Life as it may seem plus a marriage ceremony!

Everyone is different! Everyone has their own way of of seeing life but I'm sure that every life is round offed to this phrase..'Life is not easy, yet you survive' What we can do is to try focus on to the slightest of happiness that we have in our life and try to overcome our griefs... easier said than done though and people say its difficult to find happiness. Is it really?! Can't we just change our usual routines into happiness and excitement? Just like going to school and college, meeting friends, spending time with family, watching TV, even having breakfast, lunch or dinner?! maybe just to satisfy ourselves internally for the time being I guess that's the way to go, or should I say only way to go. I would love to follow these:

  • Make peace with your past so that it does not screw up the present.
  • What other people think of you is not your business.
  • Time heals almost everything, just give it time.
  • The person responsible for your happiness is you yourself.
  • Don't compare your life with others as you don't know what their journey is all about.
  • Stop thinking too much, sometimes it's good not to know all the answers.

Okay so now to the usual routine. My Eid always starts the day I reach home as that's the only thing that makes me happy these days. I was happy that we won't be going to our village this time and I would be able to relax at home but the first news that I got after reaching was that we are actually going to our village. Going to our village was perhaps a good idea in the end, relaxing under the shade of trees, cool and pure breeze, animals all around you (I liked the donkey best :P) and then not worrying about your cell phone and facebook/twitter or friends or studies. The second day of Eid was fine as I met my four angels. The third day was the best when all the family got together for a dinner and we cousins enjoyed alot :)

Oh here is an interesting story, we did not get any Daweoo seats so had to travel by the normal bus named Sky ways and believe me it was one hell of a torture... the usual drive on any bus is 8 hour if u drive via motor way, but the bus was overloaded ( people were sitting with their own chairs in the middle of the bus :O ) so the driver decided to take the long route...The bus was comforting but the rout was too long..We started our journey at 1300 hours and reached Multan around 0100 hours.. The fun part was when the driver was driving too slow and people were shouting at him and he was counter shouting and saying "Shut up or people will offer morning prayers on the way" :D

No one even looks at them during the Valima :D
Lets talk about the fourth day of the eid on which I attended a marriage ceremony after such a long time and I saw what I feared the most, people were more interested in the Dinner than the bride or groom. as soon as the dinner started the most respectable of persons just jumped towards the food items and forgot everything else :D people filled their plates as much as they could and I stood watching and regretting that I attended this ceremony, at last I got the chance and tried to pour some gravy but the person besides me could not wait and put his hand in the bowl....I couldn't eat anything after that :/

Besides every respectable, worthy and good family people were eating like animals there was this one boy around 6 years old, who was roaming around the food, I was not eating anything so I started noticing him unintentionally, he went to the dinner table with everyone and picked up 4-5 nans thinking no one was watching him, he did the same thing again, he did the same for the third time pouring the chicken gravy  into a shopping bag and ran outside where his poor family was sitting, a mother with two daughters..... how much struggle people have to do just to fight hunger!!!!

Pakistan Cricket team did really well in the test series and won it in the end but the real test will be the one day series and I hope that Pakistan will, by winning this series tell the world that they are back to take on the challenge of anyone in the world. as I write this the series is leveled 1-1 and the next ODI is  to be played on the 18th of november. This Pakistan team can achieve a lot and has the exact potential that is required to be world beaters.

Thanks Allah my sister got what she wanted and that makes me feel so proud! May Allah take care of her, fulfill her dreams and bless her with success in everything! Ameen.

I will have to get myself back to the rehabilitation, last month was a good one for me and I felt better but now after this gap I'm feeling that I will have to start from the scratch! I have got very good marks in two of my subjects but the result of the most important subject is pending and the sings are not good from what's visible!!!

I have written more than I should have, but don't know why I feel like writing, writing and writing but my hands are not helping me :D I'm writing about Potatoes, A historical city of Turkey, Imran Khan and the next part of the great cricketers but that will take lots time as I'm sure I will get tired doing all this work :D
P.S I bought the Vampire Diaries Book series and I'm so excited about it *yaaay* :) !

Mad People!

Written by Maham Shahbaz! :)

“How is she today?” he asked from her parents..
“Fine, she didn’t talk to the walls today”..
“Good” he said, going to her room..

He saw her sitting by the window looking out with a thread in her hand, as if deep in thought. Her psychiatrist knocked on the door and entered with a cheery atmosphere and said “well last appointment…makes me sad…what's going on?"
She kept on staring without answer. He was used to such patients but she somehow seemed different…he looked at the thread on her finger and asked “what's that?”
*No answer*.
He asked again.. on that she answered “this finger” ..
She held out her index finger:

“suppose this finger is me, the segments are the stages of life, child, adult, old age..and this thread…” she  held out the thread and said” suppose it is is life now see..” she started to coil the thread on her finger the lower had less turns but the upper tip had more turns..the turns increased with stage. In the end she looked at me and said “it will turn purple, that shows pain and finally death…due to pain”.

He looked at the finger, thought for a while then held out his index finger and said “that’s me” he started to coil the thread in such a way that he had half of the thread on his finger: “we share the pain, now you have less pain” he smiled at her “life is good or in your case less painful if you have people or who care about you and that can make you happy or less purple” on that they laughed..

she thought then said “we can never die..we just change forms, sand then plant then animal then human again and so on…” she uncoiled the thread and said “see? the finger remains…if I can see two of me without a mirror, if I can go to places without moving, if I can see things , which according to most of you don’t exist , the I can surely not get finished.”
You are Unique just like every cloud on the sky is..
“I have a soul in me, when I feel it , I feel supreme power and no worry and when I see my reflection I get scared , because that is my body , which is the devil, which can feel pain…”
he smiled impressed and answered “well I'm going to miss all the philosophy, you have recovered well, now I wont be your psychiatrist, official appointments are over, but as I promised you I will come meet you…unofficially” he winked at her and left.

While he was on his way home he thought “how can a mad person know all this?... maybe they aren’t mad…they are just unique…”

Cricket Time!

Pakistan vs Srilanka cricket series may not be a mouth watering prospect for many but I guess this is the perfect preparation and confidence building step that Pakistan needed before the big series against England early next year as that series will decide the direction towards which Pakistan cricket is going.

Pakistan dominated throughout the five days of the first cricket test between the two teams, had it not been the drop catches Pakistan would have won easily. Winning the toss and bowling first was a risk but Misbah was right in taking the initiative of a fresh pitch as the only assistance bowlers had was on the first day of the match and Pakistani bowlers did not let their captain down when they bowled out Srilanka for 197 with Junaid Khan picking up his first five wicket hall in a spell of 14.1-3-38-5. Pakistan reply was a strong one as Taufeeq Umar with his 236 helped Pakistan to a strong total of 511/6 wickets, the only negative was that Pakistan took 710 minutes and scored the runs at the rate of 2.9 per over. Srilanka's second innings was no different as they were struggling at 233-5 only until the drop catches, six in total, cost Pakistan the match. They were able to bowl out Srilanka with 21 overs remaining but sensibly did not chase the target due to Srilanka's negative field setting. Kumara Sangakara was given the man of the match award which was surprising for me :)

The start of second Cricket test was almost the same with the only difference that it was Srilanka who won the toss and elected to bat! That was a brave decision but it backfired with Srilanka reeling at 154/8 but thanks to the late resistance of Rangana Herath and Walegedara they were able to reach a respectable total of 239. Pakistan's reply was again a strong one as they were able to score 403 runs and taking a lead of 164 runs with Azhar Ali scoring his first international hundred and were able to bowl out Srilanka for 257 runs in their second innings. This time the destroyer was Saeed Ajmal picking up 68-5. Pakistan were left to chase 94 wihch they did so at the lost of just one wicket. Saeed Ajmal was declared man of the match!

Pakistan have played really well in the two tests so far and have been on top of their game in all aspects, which is a heartening fact to see. In my view this is by fat the most settled Pakistani test team after the Inzamam era and I'm loving that fact. But I guess the real test for the Pakistani team will be the third test match where they will have to finish as a dominating side and their batting will have one last test of character! they must not get complacent and just stick to the basics, actually I could have wrote about the matches and my views alot more but the sad news about the spot fixing is out and I just can't write more for now! (Sad in a way). Pakistan should go for a 2-0 here as it will take them to number 5 in the ICC rankings within a touching distance of Australia!

Imran Khan and Eid !

So a break from writing turned out to be a good thing! Every word I was writing was becoming more obvious, everything I wanted to write was the same I'd said previously. I feel like writing now, I feel like writing alot.

Today was my last exam and thanks to Allah all of them went fine., although I know I could have done better in the exams but the small errors and laziness let me down this time. Instrumentation and Measurements was a cake but I didn't read the paper carefully and end up solving the values wrong of a numerical, that might cost me five marks. Engineering materials was the same thing, my friend keep on requesting me to read the formula of a question which I had written down in my notes but I was thinking that it'll be the same questions in the exams which my teacher has mentioned. The Computer Programing was easy but I'm unable to understand the loops and how to make triangles out of it. Keeping in mind that these are perhaps my most important exams I'm satisfied.

Eid is approaching and this time I'm in no mood to celebrate it. What's the point of celebrating Eid when you don't have any of your cousins and relatives in the city. Most of the time we go to our village but that's not the case this time around! But then my Eid starts the day I go back home. This time I'm going to buy the Vampire Diaries series and read as much as I can. I could not finish the Eleven Minute as my copy had a few pages missing,I hope I get those missing pages.

I read many news papers and I keep myself always upto date with the political situation of the country I've never been too much into politics myself. 31st October was the day when I had my first exam and i was really tense, I just opened the live streaming of Express News, there was the a rally and 'Jalsa' organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaaf, which is led by the famous and greatest Cricketer, Imran Khan. Technically speaking I'm a member of PTI and I know that most of the youth support Imran Khan, but the  Lahore rally was a breakthrough for sure. I have never in my life seen such enthusiasm in the youth or the people, I myself, following it on the TV felt so proud of everything as If It was something related to me, all the social networks and the people there were excited, people from all over the world were following it and a crowd of 500000 was present in which there were mostly youngsters and families at Minar-E-Pakistan and Imran Khan did not disappoint us, and gave a memorable speech. Such a high level success was astonishing for everyone but I'm pretty hopeful its the beginning of a change, a new start from where the next generation and youth of Pakistan will take over InshaAllah :)

When I talk about myself I'm happy with my progress, I haven't been able to achieve what I wanted to but still I have not let things get out of hand! still a long way to go..I have not been able to buy a website uptill now due to visa card issues hope it gets solved as soon as possible.

Eid Mubarak to Everyone! May Allah bless you.. :)
