The Rat Story

This article is Originally written by Amna Munir on an 'incident' that took place with me, by the name of Story Untold. It was posted in her blog Enchanting Heaven.

This is a true story, all characters are real except for a little bit additions by me.

On the other corner of the city, I have a friend. I asked him to write this down himself but he totally refused saying " that's disgusting". But if you ask me,
i think " It's really cute."
Now you guys must be curious what is so special which has got two contradictory opinions.
So here I share the unforgetful experience of my friend with you in his pen.

One night I was sitting on my couch relaxing after a hectic day at university when I heard a rasping sound in my ears, ignoring it and thinking that it might be some strayed cat munching on my waste basket I switched on the TV. My favorite show was being aired so forgetting everything I was endorsed in the captivating cast and twisty story. I never know when I was lost in beauty sleep when I was woke up by something damp creeping over my foot. Suddenly opening eyes, scared, I looked around if there was some froggie or its mate but there was nothing like that.Everything went fine later that night but I couldn't get more sleep and spent the night guessing what i could be.

They look cute, but trust me they are disgusting =p

The following morning I went to my kitchenette humming , searching for something to eat I opened cabinet and moved the things to get hold of my cornflakes. To my surprise I found my snacks and other food stuff ripped into bits. It was all messy not at all like I left last morning. This was the very moment when it dawned upon my pre-occupied mind that there is something in my flat, something that's no human, something that predates human eatables and leaves it of
no use. I wanted to act and think positive that no there's nothing like that, all is well but the succeeding events forced me to - stockings having holes, kitchen litter in living room, books' pages with missing edges designed as by termites, loaf of bread scattered like bread crumbs on kitchen table, clattering in kitchenware. In addition to all this , one evening I cooked myself an omlette when i got a call. I placed the plate on the kitchen slab and went to the TV lounge to attend the call. When I was done talking I got back to take the omlette and I was astonished to find nothing like omlette, the dish was empty, not even the last scraps of denatured spiced protein. I looked about if there was some ghost or monster who can eat up such a huge omlette in matter of seconds and there I found at last -a greyish , muddy tinged mammal with little nose, shiny black eyes, tiny feet and pearl white teeth biting on my food. I stood there; surprised, revolted, angry, frustrated - amalgam of feelings. I hushed that mean creature ssshhh, hsshhh, shooo , but no , no effect on him or her, whatever ! I don't really care.Even if it was She , It looked nothing like Katy Perry, Selena or Nina Dobrev . *sigh*

This all was too much. I told myself I can't take it anymore . Afterall it's my place and I have all freedom as free citizen to live alone , me and myself , not with some unworldly creatures. So I had to take an action right away. I discussed it with my friend and surprisingly she told me that mice are cute, why don't you take three of 'em and making a trio teach them how to sing and dance just like Dave Seville did in "Alvin And The Chipmunks." It would make you popular . That was the point I came to the conclusion that I was all alone in this war - rightly said only the wearer knows where the shoe pinches .

Now I pondered of plans how to get rid of these repugnant beings - rat traps, rat killing pills or just a broom can do ? I tried out all this stuff ;when i set mouse trap there left no chesse and it was there all fixed not even moved an inch , pills stayed right there under the sofa , under the dinning table , near the cabinet but i was able to track their foot steps on them and last but not the least whenever i attempted killing 'em with broom , the one mouse that heard my foot steps heralded all others and I stood there helpless as all the preys ran away to their bills. I thought of getting a predator catty but I gave up the idea thinking that it would do no good than creating even more mess in my little , once neat and clean apartment. Now you might be thinking why didn't I google out as Google has got all the solutions, yes,
I agree with you but none of them were pragmatic.

After all these ordeals I'm inclined to sing :

How could you be so heartless..oh
How could you be so heartless
How could you be so Dr. Evil, you
bringin' out a side of me I don't know.

New Place, New Beginning?!

Its been a while since I posted something about myself, yeah its been a long time. After coming back from Multan I directly came back to the New Apartment as we had already shifted the luggage and stuff. This place is in the F11 sector and its beautiful. There are many parks in he sector one of which is in front of our apartment and most of my time, the free time passes in that Park.

It was a really busy weekend as Hamza and I had to make affidavit for the new flat which, thanks to Ameer we did after lots of trouble. Both of us had to go on foot to the Court and the shop we went in was a total fraud. They asked for 600 rupees from us without any reason and bad luck was that we just had a total of 480 rupees, and because of this reason we had to come back to the University on foot as well which was really annoying and tiring.

During the weekend we did wonders really and finished up bundle of work on Saturday. We arranged for the cook, we got PTCL connection and DSL the same day, we also bought all the food we needed for our menu, we bought all the crockery, and also shifted the refrigerator and other stuff from our old flat YESSSS! ALL IN A SINGLE DAY! :D

I just started studying this week and I hope so that I continue to do so as the new apartment and its calmness is very tempting not to study. I also have my FYP in June and there are 6 semester projects to deal with until the end of  may!

In short, Life is bitterly sweet for me! :)

Time at Home!

Whenever I come back to Multan there is always a sense of calmness about this city. Life here is so simple and smooth that I forget all my tensions.

Saturday was my first day here and It passed mostly spending time with family. Tamur had a holiday and we played games most of the day. The lunch today was Chicken Karahi and it was delicious. I also had 'Karri Pakora' and 'Gajar ka halwa'.

Sunday is supposed to be funday and thats what it exactly turned out to be. We three brothers played hard ball Cricket and at one stage I played out 336 balls or 56 overs without losing a wicket. The sand storm tried to interrup our session but we kept on playing. Earlier in the morning we had our favorite breakfast 'Bhatti k Chanay'. We went out with Papa to Uncle Khan's home, also went to order a book rack for my room.

Monday was a quiet day as I was alone at home and nothing much to do. Playing cricket for that long was taking its toll and I felt tired all through the day. At night we went out to have dinner and there was no guessing where we went.

Early morning on Tuesday hamza and I went out to take magazines, dvd's and also to take some stuff that Papa had asked. But the most tough phase was when we had to submit the license form at the Police office. We have half watched Rango and it really is a nice movie!

A Trip back Home! =)

Post 1:

Its that time again and I'm going back home. Right now as always I'm passing the mountains with only a slight difference that the sun is out this time. The weather is neither hot nor that cold so the atmosphere inside the bus is pretty fine.

I will be staying in multan for almost 9 days. This by the way will also be my first travel blog for Travel Pod! :)

The bus scheduled to arrive at 3pm but as is usually the case in Pakistan, we were late. I had already booked the tickets on wednesday as hassaaan, hamza and Ameer were also coming with me. We reached the terminal on time and got the tickets half hour before the actual time. Its 4:18 pm right now and I'm still passing through the mountains! =)

Post 2:

The mountains have passed and the vast fields have started. All around the area there is greenry. This pattern will now follow us all the way to multan. We made a stop at Siyal Chawk for about 15 minutes and had KFC packed for us which I just finished eating. Its almost evening time now and the night has started to fall, but still theres a long way to travel, its 18:25 h right now.

Phase 3:

We have just started the last phase of our journey, although there is still a long way to go. Jhang has always been one of my favorite places because I like the food at the terminal. This time I could not eat anything because of the heavy KFC meal which I am regretting right now. most probably I will pass these hours sleeping as I have no IPod to listen any type of music. Its almost 9pm.

Post 4:

I have reached home and its was about 11:30 pm. Papa and Tamur were already there to receive us. We reached home and had a delicious dinner. Its almost 1am. one thing that I really missed all the way was that there was no one to remind me recite Ayat-al-kursi!
